You probably already know that we own TEtoolbox, the best tracking service around. It’s solid, and it works. What you probably don’t realize is that people take tracking too far.
Why do you track?
Well the reason you track is to see where you are getting results from, so you can spend more money there. Simple right? Wrong.
The reason I say wrong is because people feel the need to track way way way too much. Instead of doing a simple where is the signups or customers coming from, they want to know what hour it was at what time zone what color shirt they were wearing, if they wear other shirts, what link on what specific page they clicked, if they clicked two links on two pages. It’s insane.
We’re planning on re-launching TEtoolbox and part of that process will be simplifying it, and helping people learn how to make tracking easy and fun so they actually do it. When it’s information overload or too cumbersome to do; you won’t do it!
So.. that being said.. What things do you like and dislike about TEtoolbox? All feedback is appreciated, and feel free to reply to what others have said. Now is your time to speak up ;-)
Tetoolbox is without a doubt the greatest tracking service and I always recommend it to everyone.
I like tetoolbox the way it is, of course a new design sometimes can work wonders specially to those who have not yet signed up but have probably seen the site a million times.
The only thing I would change other then that is to add an option there to name each of the urls in your tracker. Personally I find it easier to keep track of what sites they are with a given name. For example, if I put in a url from Adkreator, http://kreate.me/RWj , if I forget which one it is I have to copy/paste it into my browser to check. Not a big deal, just a matter of it being a little more convenient I guess.
I kike being able to view daily weekly and month to date numbers.
Also being able to have multiple urls on the same tracking url and adjust how much I want each shown.
Same as rdholco. I also like the splash page maker, the banner maker and the banner rotator. Oh, the Thank You page maker is pretty cool too.
I love the ability to target or exclude a particular TE for a particular site in a rotator. It would be really cool to see that expanded so that more than one TE can be targeted/excluded at a time (i.e. “I want this URL to show at sites A, B and C, but not at Site D, E and F”).
I also like being able to see stats for unique users. I know some people get TOO obsessed with that, but I find it useful and hope it doesn’t go away in the re-launch.
One thing you could add to it is maybe a area we can enter in how much the ad cost us, and how much we get paid per sale we can track our ROI.
Also a link to delete a tracker. If this is already a feature I’m not sure where or how to delete my trackers then.
Another thing I wouldn’t mind seeing is members able to pick a day to see the stats just for the 1 day. I know you have today, week, and month but in the week and month view you cannot tell how much traffic you got on say like Monday the 12th. You can at the top but it just shows you hits for that day and the actual site stats at the bottom display the full month or week.
Sorry if I’m being a little picky, but these are just a few upgrades I think will help benefit myself and others.
Over all though I like TE Tool Box and recommend it to all my members.
Hi Chris, You can delete your tracker. Click “Edit Settings” for the tracker, then at very bottom you can delete tracker all together or reset the stats. :)
TE Toolbox is one of my most important tools, and I am a “lifer.” So I hope you will respect those like me who have invested in these tools for the long term and NOT remove any existing functionality. Feel free to bury it in a simplified GUI, but please do not take away what we’ve already paid for. Thanks.
I love TE Toolbox and am thoroughly enjoying my lifetime upgrade! I would really love to see updates in the Splash Page Maker. Mostly because I was broke when the Adkreator lifetime was offered. LOL. But seriously, new content and functionality there would be awesome.
You know my feelings about TE Toolbox I have only written about 20 blog post involving it.
But the only thing I would like to see is the ability to maybe download your stats each week into csv. That way you can compare.
But other than that anything new would be cool.
The main things I’d like to see are to be able to filter out the “anonymous” visits where information is withheld as well as have information in a way where we can accumulate stats offline.
I seriously need a lifetime upgrade on TEToolBox.
I like every feature it has and hope nothing is dropped. I do agree with Chris in that it would be nice to be able to go back and look at all the stats for a particular day.
Ya got that, TimTech? Let’s hope nothing is dropped.
The training videos you added in CTP really helped me with tracking. I also agree with Barry…..I wish there was someway to identify each of the urls in a tracker without having to click each one to see what it actually is.
I am quite happy with TE Toolbox as it is, so I confess to feeling slightly apprehensive at the thought of a makeover. Nevertheless, in the interests of making a (very small) contribution to the process, I will make a suggestion for the new format. I would like to see the Sources entry “none” get some sort of explanation or at least a more edifying name.
Best wishes to you and the Team on your renovation project.
Gary, I agree the “None” category of click sources is mystifying.
You’re absolutely right about tracking and you have my renewed interest in my account with TE Toolbox.
Once again Tim, Great post.
I am just an ole guy with a couple of websites but, I learned a long time ago
to live and work by the KISS formula. (Keep It Simple ST___D)
It is all too easy to get obsessed with tracking numbers, even to the point of failing to do more important things…learn who is the boss and don’t be a slave to the numbers.
P.
Tim, I have to say TE Toolbox is one of the top 3 most useful sites that I use on a weekly basis. A color/graphics change would be okay but other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks for the site.
I like TeToolbox, great tracking tool, but I agree with Tim. Tracking has gotten overloaded. I like the splashpage builder, but I would like to see videos on how to make splashpages. I am looking forward to the new revamped TEToolBox.
I love te toolbox,I have tried other trackers in the past but te toolbox is simply awesome.
I don’t care what time they signed up,not yet anyway,I can see how this might be something people would want to know.
If your using social media,it could help you decide what time to post,on the other hand you should not be spamming your link across the social networks.
Timothy
I’m with Shane Croker, it’s one thing to change the look and feel of the site, and if you can make improvements to the graphical display of data that’s great. Just don’t take away any of the existing functionality. If you can make existing functionality more accessible to more people great. But as you know I was VERY disappointed with the last TEtoolbox update that removed the site-checking functionality built into the old rotators that you killed off.
The make-over you did on Thumb-vu, turning it into a very different kind of product, is the sort of reboot I hope you steer clear of for any TET retooling. If you want to build something new – great! But realize that thousands of people have come to rely on your tools and shelled out big bucks expecting them to be there for months or years to come. So PLEEZE pleeze pleeze be careful you don’t break what’s currently working just fine.
Very well stated!!
Hi Guys,
I agree with Shane up there. TE Toolbox is one of the most useful, tools out there. I hit it every single day for various reasons. Not the least of course is the tracking. The lifetime upgrade is one of the smartest decisions I ever made!
PLEASE don’t mess with it too much. Don’t dummy it up for the computer challenged speaking from experience, as they master your site, and great features, they are then able to tackle other programs out there. ???
I would hate to lose any features. The Splash maker is great it just needs a bigger work space. At most maybe a little face lift on the look of the site. Only so the uninformed are more easily swayed to do the right thing and join. They eventually will anyway. So you can leave it alone.
Well enough of that. I’m gonna go check out the banner rotator someone mentioned. I haven’t played with that yet. OooooH! Fun.
:)
Tim, looks like you hit on a good topic. I think to sum it up from all the useful content, it’s okay to tweak but don’t get too nerdy and tweak too much.
hi guys, I’ve loved TEToolbox since I first found it when I was a newbie. One thing I’d really like is to be able to preview my thank you ads without having to refresh my thank you page.
oops sorry, I lost track of which field was which…
You can improve TEtoolbox by adding levels (tiers) to it. If someones referral gets a referral then BOTH get a referral. Adding levels and tiers (like the ones that easyhits4u and trafficg have) will GREATLY enhance the whole marketing and CTP experience.
I would like the ability to track unique clicks. Everything else is great. :)
I had already reported some problems before. For your convenience I re-posted here:
(Ticket ID: TET-668236)
“I found the FAQ, manual and help video are for the old version of the site, also the “Add To Rotator” function for the Splash is using the old code (pointing to websites.php which becomes the converting-old-rotator page). You may want to check the whole system for things like this, since it makes me annoying when I cannot found documents about some functions that I don’t know how to use.”
I have to repeat again: TeToolbox is surprisingly mixing “new” and “old” things for a long time (at least for months) and no one is updating them! You should review the whole site as soon as possible.
Do you have another support staff? Since I found Larry is supporting all TimTech sites, and maybe he/she is busy sometimes he/she missed my message. Not often though. (ID: CLI-693419)
I am heavily using TeToolbox. It is one of my must-have. Thank you for creating this tool. The only thing you need to do is updating it.
Regards,
Ken Chong
