The affect of Links on Search Engines

Search engines are becoming more and more advanced all the time. They no longer rely just on meta tags to rank your site highly, some ignore them completely.

It started with Google, and now others are using links to determine your relevancy. The idea is simple: If a site about Search Engines links to a page with the text “Search Engines”, and the page it is linking to also contains “Search Engines”. Then it should be about them, right?

While this isn’t the only thing that is used, it is so important that you can’t ignore it. For your site to rank highly, you’ll need to have links to your site.

Not only will you need links to your site, but you’ll need links to your site with good anchor text. If you want to rank highly for Dogs, don’t have everyone linking to your site with the text Cats.

With links, quality and quantity both count. A site that has 1000’s of links to their site will carry more signifigance than a site that has 10 links to their site. However, don’t ignore the little sites, they could be ranking highly in your niche and could contribute alot to your ranking.

The number of sites that don’t work on their search engine rankings is surprising. I’ll be writing more tips in the future to help you rank your site highly.
