Search Engine Accuracy

I’ve been finding this site randomly throughout the internet, so I figured I’d write a little about it.

Basically this website is setup so you enter your search terms, and then it shows you the results from Google, MSN, and Yahoo in random order. You then vote on which one gave the best results.

It’s very interesting to see, because I was surprised that MSN was better than Google a few times in my searches. I did a search for site:www.nednil.com, and MSN also had fresher copies of my site.

It seems that Microsoft is trying to compete big time with Google, and they seem to be doing a fairly good job of doing so. I’ve noticed searching link:www.nednil.com shows links to the site very shortly after they’ve been added, whereas Google will delay them quite a while.

Now don’t go off thinking I’m anti-Google. I am not, I just like finding which sites are linking to me faster. You can find some interesting stuff this way!

Well, without any more delay, I think it is time you try the test out yourself. Just remember, you can only vote once for it to count, so go for something tricky =P

Very interesting. I did three searches and to my surprise, I found all three search engines to be of some use. Google was the last, however, in line. This doesn’t count the new personalized Google though … that could alter some results as more results are narrowed down to each user. MSN was the first; Yahoo second, and Google last. MSN does seem to camp out on a website longer than Google.
