Increasing Alexa Ranking

I heard a rumor that putting the Alexa Widget on your website could increase your alexa ranking. So I decided to give it a whirl, and put it on the StartXchange Splash Pages in February.
There was a slight increase, but not significant enough to say that was the reason. Afterall, I also increased advertising StartXchange so that in itself would help increase it.

Jens on MLM Forums did an Alexa experiment of his own. He found a way to actually increase your ranking.

Interesting. This is kind of obvious though, right? Alexa just checks the number of people visiting sites (via it’s toolbar) and keeps something like a score. The more hits, the lower the score. It’s not really anything like Google Analytics in telling you visitor loyalty. :P

A good read that I recommend, would be their FAQ, which addresses this very issue. :)

There were people who beleived the widget would track visitors too, not just the toolboar.
