I’m looking for you to critique me!

Ok this is where the fun begins. You get to critique one of my websites! I want your opinions on the look, the layout, the functionality, etc of the website. What do you like and dislike, what would you like to see added, etc.

Now I know that some of you are thinking you aren’t qualified to critique my site. I know because in surveys many have answered that they feel they are too new to reply in the forums or on my blog. Well guess what, your opinion does matter!

That’s because I want the site to appeal to all users..  especially those who are new to the business. So your feedback can sometimes be even more important than the big wigs. Many times we don’t notice things because we are used to the way things work, and these things can be very confusing to new users and easy to fix. So please, give me some feedback..  I expect to see 6000+ comments on this post =P

Here’s the site..  www.trafficexchangelist.com

Edit: While design is important, I’m more interested in your thoughts on the content and value of the site overall. IE: do you not care what’s there, is there information missing, etc.

  1. Looks Eastery with that green header and egg looking circle things, not bad. Altough it could use some lines around the margins, header feels like it kind of drops off on a wider screen.

I like it. I think it looks nice and fresh and the info is useful.
However, the body text font is a bit small.

I think the tools page is excellent – can’t wait to come back and set that up!

As for the other tabs – yes – very interesting and a great resource.

  3. Your page has a nice clean look to it. The colours are excellent…the greens and blues around the logo and the search bar are refreshing.

My suggestion would be to take the blue from the word *exchange* and apply that to the font of the list of top 10 exchanges. The green scroll over is a nice touch on the exchange list btw.

Simple is what makes this page easy to look at.

  4. Like the design, but it’s too difficult to vote for your exchange to be listed. We should be able to get our own link for voting..

  5. Justin Ledvina says:

WoW you must have a great design team. The logo, the banners and the top exchange buttons all look GREAT!

Ok so I’m bias. I have zero issues with the site. I find it easy and fast to navigate around.

  7. Hi Tim

I like it. The whole appearance looks fresh and clean and I find it easy to read. The colors are also very restful on the eyes.

    Tim,
Actually, I like the clean look. Quite nice. My only beef would be for you to change the line “Best Manual Exchanges” to something else. You need a different word in place of Best. This line should be somewhere in the copy, but to prominently display the list as Best, may not be best. Pun intended.

  11. I like it…its clean and to the point. Great use of colors & red to highlighting the top exchanges stressing the urgency to be a part of the top ones. Navigation between sites is easy and seamless, BUT..not easy to get back to the home page once leaving it…need “Top 10″ link or home page link on every page.. Content is also very easy to read…What critique could you give to the FPP Site?

  12. James Vest says:

It has a clean look to it, but somehow it just looks too plain. Sorry, Tim.

  13. Stan Swain says:

Easy to follow, simple and clean

  14. I think your site here is Awesome and your Traffic exchange rocks! just wish I could surf more. I too am looking for some feedback on my new site if you find the time in your hectic schedule. Have a Wonderful day,Tim

  15. I’ve always wondered what all the categories there meant. Particularly, reach and height. Most newcomers probably wouldn’t know what Top and AF mean either. I think an explanation of each somewhere would be helpful. Like perhaps a tooltip explanation when you hover over each.

An explanation of how you come up with the ranking would be nice too. With so many variables it is hard to figure out which might hold the biggest weight.

Once again your updates from Top Traffic Exchanges are not up-to-date, at least not for Major League Hits, which is currently ranked # 5 there.

Fix all that then I’ll come back to beat you up some more.

    LOL, J/K Tim!

  16. Melissa says:

I love traffic exchanges but the one thing that I have found that really wasn’t interesting for me was it needed, some information on why I should click on one of the links. Just the links would not make me click on there. Let me know why I should go into these one. If I was new and I didn’t know a thing about you I would never think twice about it I don’t think that I would waist my time on something that tells me nothing about why I should.
Another thing is I would say about them is what is the ratio and stats within each one of them to get my interests flowing and what I will get out of it if I sign up for these sites!
More details is what this site needs not just names.

  17. John says:

    Tim,

    You asked…

I don’t like your search bar because:
    - it takes up too much room on the page, so that the top 10 are not all visible at a glance;
    - it doesn’t tell me what I am searching thru (I agree a lot of search bars don’t): am I searching the entire internet, just on this site, the list of exchanges, or something else.

Just below that you have a call to action (subscribe to our weekly report free!) but no obvious way of actually doing that. Could be more useful if it were a link, or told me where/how to do this.

Below the top ten list you have a news item which is several months old. This does not inspire confidence! Your site is promising current, up-to-date data, so this news item does not fit the image you want to project.

For the rest, it’s a great page!

Please note: I consult the lists and reports contained on the site at least once a week.

    Regards,
    John

  18. Justine says:

At the bottem of the site the light green maybe difficult for some to see. Perhaps, it could be changed to a darker color. I’m speaking of
where it says contact and members.

  19. Elizabeth says:

Good: It’s clean , sharp looking
It puts what you want seen clearly in front of the viewer, so people know what to look for, aren’t distracted by a lot of extra words, ads, etc.

Not so Good: Other than list of Te’s, fonts are small and hard to read.
The white background is a little glaring and tends to obscure the small print, making it even harder to read
The pale green menu on bottom of page is very hard to see against so much white.
While the point of the page-the TE list stands out, the overall page is bland.
this may seem contradictory to a comment above-the page to me seem too empty, too much blank white. I wouldn’t want to see it loaded with ads-they’re distracting and can get obnoxious after a while, but with larger font, more color, and maybe a bit of clipart or photo’s or some sort of picture, it wouldn’t look like a few words in the middle of a large blank space.

  20. Ted says:

    Hey Tim,

The page is too white for me.
I agree with John Vest above, it
looks to plain. The sides need an edge.
Take the search bar out or put it at the bottom.

The information is good. I was going to say have a link for the rest of the rankings, but I guess that is the get the FREE report link at the top. I wasn’t sure what that link was until I clicked it. Maybe put a different link in saying where to get the rest of the rankings. ie. “get the full ranking report here”
The December 4th 2008 update is too outdated, I would remove it after a month or so.

Did I say I don’t like the search box lol

    Take Care,

    Ted

  21. The site looks good to me. I would make the print (font) a bit larger

  22. I don’t like it. It does look plain. Way to much white. The logo looks great. The red need to be a brighter red in my opinion and you need something for the background other then just plain white. Maybe a thumbnail of each Traffic exchanges front page would brighten it up. Something needs to be on the side. Maybe the navigation buttons you have on the top can go down the side and make them larger some what like the members area in a LJ exchange. You need a larger bolder font. More information maybe on how you rate the exchanges. I also don’t like the pale green. Maybe a darker green would look better say forest green. The sign up link need to be brighter.

Try revising it and then let us critique it again.

  27. Irmgard says:

your site has much informations and is good organized but the style is poor and without idea.

  28. The site is simple, clear and plain. No distrctions, but I feel like there is something missing. Maybe some more text, information.

  29. Raymar says:

I am a computer newbie and I have looked at lot of sites and most of them have way too many testimonials and repeat info on them and they are boring and I usually skip to the end without reading half of what is offered.
I found your site clean, informative and to the point and I already belong to 5 out of 10 of the sites and if I didn’t I would be interested in checking them out because I didn’t get bored trying to figure out what was offered. I am going to check out the other 5 just because of your site. You don’t have to get testimonials from every existing “Guru” to get interest in a subject.
