Well it’s finally time to say Goodbye to Hacker Safe, or McAfee Secure for that matter. Things just aren’t the same anymore. I magically lost my affiliate account one day (and my emails regarding it nowhere to be seen), and the benefit of the branded “HackerSafe” icon is no longer there as they’ve changed the icons to “McAfee Secure”.
So I’m still the same guy, very serious about security, but just won’t be using this as one of the tools in my toolbox. There are other vulnerability scanners out there.. And besides, it’s been said that people showing the badge are more likely to be targetted by hackers because they want to prove a point. Oh well!
Yes, Tim its still greek to me. I am so fearful of doing that as I am not familar with it.

I run whenever I see the name “McAfee”.
I HATE anything McAffee and Norton. They have both been the demise of some of our computers, lol. Tim, could you share some of the vulnerability scanners you reccommend? That would be great!
Good choice!! Thnaks for sharing this :-)
Thanks For the Heads Up I was Going to add them to my site. Thanks a millon.
yes I like your reviews of the TEs. Keep up the good work
Hey Tim…have been using AVG pro version without too many getting through.
What would you recommend using instead of McAfee. My site was hacked into even though I use McAfee.
I have never had a problem with Norton. I think their the best. I used McAfee when I first got a computer, then was recommended to Norton. I also used Avast for a while. But prefer Norton.
Hey Tim, I have used mcafee and norton but I have been using defenderpro for a while and it has alot of cool features that will fix and repair also to me it is the greatest antivirus program around and I got the whole package at walmart for only $20.00 I would recommend anyone to use it. And it does regular signature updates everyday.
I understand about the difference between the anti-virus for a pc and what is offered for servers.
As a pc owner I stopped using both McAfee and Norton many years ago since both were too easily hacked. I had a lot of problems with both programs.
My former ISP had used RAV8 on the server for the detection of spam and the like and this was a little known program but was very good. I believe that it was purchased by Microsoft.
On my personal pc I use the Windows live program for antivirus and a firewall – Windows Onecare Live. It has not let me down. It catches all of the download trojans that are to be found when surfing the TEs.
I know many who have used Trend Micro – personally I do not like it and think it is not hacker safe.
As Tim said, this is about software available for his server and that McAfee failed to protect him. It is not about our own firewall and anti-virus protection.
I noticed that no one mentioned the Panda product. It is one that is well worth consideration and it is better than a number that have been mentioned here
Nortons/McAfee are the same company same data base now. Both are useless for AntiVirus. I have used Panda Antivirus & Firewall with TruPrevent Technologies 3 years now and I wouldn’t ever consider using anything else. Nothing gets through. It’s updated several times per day and they have protection for new viruses weeks before McAfee/Nortons get them. In the last month someone has been coming at me with a Denial of Service Attack every hour but Panda blocks it and warns me every time.
Panda is really a commercial Anti Virus program used by many of the larger Corporations, Government Agencies and Fortune 500 companies and it’s expensive for the average user to purchase running at $69.95 per year but that includes licenses for up to 3 computers.
However I buy the evaluation copy that is usually shipped with new PC’s from krex.com for $15.95 and just reregister it every year under a different email address. It’s the same software as the $69.95 download from their site.
