Get indexed fast with Google Sitemaps

I thought I wrote about this before somewhere, but my friend Jon when I mentioned it said I should post about it. Well here goes! This will be what to do if you have Wordpress.

First you’ll need to get a plugin called “Google Sitemap Generator“. It’s free and easy to install, just like any plugin. After installing it, remember to goto “Options” and then “Sitemap”. Fill out any settings and hit “Rebuild Sitemap”. You might have to upload a blank sitemap.xml  or sitemap.xml.gz file, and CHMOD it so the script can save the file.

Next you’ll need to login to your Google Sitemaps account. If you don’t have one, you can create one free. Once inside enter the URL to your website, then click the Sitemaps tab and click add a sitemap. Then enter the URL to your “General sitemap” (usually yoursite.com/sitemap.xml).

That’s all it is to it. Then Google will periodically download your sitemap file, and index any new or changed pages. What’s great about the plugin is it will update the sitemap as you post or comments are made.

If you verify your site you can also get some cool statistics right from Google about the searches being made for your site. You can also change how fast they crawl your site and much more.

I have created a new sitemap. I then resubmitted it to google. I did change my whole site. Will google delete the old cache web page entries I had? Or will google keep the old entries? I probably shouldn’t have doneit because I think google will stil show my old pages which don’t exist anymore.

Google’s crawler will eventually figure out that the old pages are gone.
