How True!

I had to do extensive searching through Yahoo's Help and TOS to find out how they interpret the use of the 'SPAM' button! You would think that they would explain it to you CLEARLY, before you do use it 'indiscriminately', but NO!

I only use the spam button when the email doesn't contain any unsubscribe link and replying to it prooves impossible, as it was spoofed or proxied somehow.

I haven't had any complaints from anyone mainly because I don't mail out in BULK or to anyone who has NOT e-mailed me first, or completed a form, for which they get 1 e-mail and that's it.

I use a method of 'Chain Linking' my messages, so that, if they want the next in series, they'll have to click on a link in the previous message to 'POP' it from my server.

Since it's nearly instantaneous, they are usually already in their e-Mail account, waiting for the response to come in, so the request is both 'FRESH' in their minds, and on demand (at their most recent request!),

I have written to Yahoo several times about 'undisclosed' features and they refuse to respond with any meaningful explaination or even an attempt at an excuse!

What really IRKS me is when spammers put my own e-mail address in the reply to field as well as the from field and Yahoo doesn't catch it as SPAM! How is THAT?

Hi Tim,

I totally support you in suspending those accounts. Easiest way for anyone not to receive anymore mails is by unsubscribing. And if they don't want to receive any info in the first place, they should have read through everything and unchecked the necessary options!

I am shocked that people would hit the spam button on your emails. People have to request it. Why don't they just cancel when they change their minds about receiving emails from you. I also hope you tell who the te owners that have marked you as a spammer because I do not want to surf there. Most of us love hearing from you so keep up the good work.

I could see this happening if you're surfing many sites at once and not paying attention to where you click. Thanks for the insight-I myself will before more alert.

First, I am a plat startxchange member and I cannot believe that Tim has to waste his time writing this type of article. Holy Moly! You agreed to receive his blog and you need to use your head for something other then holding your hair. Spam is for mail that you do not wish to receive. Dah? I am a small TE owner myself and I know what bounced emails and Spam complaints can do. What I do...I leave any emails in question on the online server and download them to my POP3 on a different computer.
This way, I can read it or delete.
By the way, most of Tim's blogs I check out because they are straight up-front and no BS. You folks that are clicking Spam are missing out!

WOW Tim
you picked a good 1 today, lots of answers.
My 2cants worth, I have noticed the "Y" one will eventually move some of the TE's to spam if I do not open them often enough; & w/ a lot of TE's that happens quite often.
Have not had this prob. w/ Gmail.
I also think that if someone hits spam button, they should not have any recourse. {unless mistaken]

Hi Tim,

I'd be interested in learning more about that. I also would like to know how I can find if my website is considered a source of spam.

There is one domain of mine that I did the mistake at the beginning of setting up a "catch-all" email address, meaning that all email addresses to that domain would be routed to the specified catch-all email address.

I soon found out that spammers loved it! I began to receive spam addressed to every combination of possible email addresses that looked like anything@mydomain.com. I also noticed that From field in the spam emails was also an email from my domain. This is why I wonder if they sent their spam to other people using my domain name in the From field and if that resulted in my domain being blacklisted.

Would I have been notified of that in anyway if my domain had been blacklisted?

Thanks!
