Traffic Exchange Active Surfers Count

Yesterday I talked about Traffic Exchange Membership Numbers, and today I’m going to talk about Active Surfers! It may come as a shock to many, that not all active surfer counts are equal!
For instance, StartXchange uses 10 minutes, EasyHits4U uses 30 minutes, and most TCNTE exchanges list the past 5 minutes in the admin backend. I did a bit of research a while back which told me 10 minutes was best, which is why I changed it (and forgot until I just looked to double check after finding the long lost graph!)
What this means, however, is that again each exchange’s number of active surfers is going to appear different. Just like the number of members active within the past year and last hour are different (but not as severe). I wanted to know exactly what was going on, so I did tracking of the time in between clicks on the surfbar. The graph below shows what I found:
While the majority of clicks are within the 5 minute mark, a good chunk are still within that 10 mark. Which is why I thought it would be a good idea to consider the person still active. And EasyHits4U thought it was best to have it set to 30 minutes.
But as you can see from the graph, the time differences isn’t that drastic where you’d be able to say 371 surfing at EasyHits4U is the same as 179 surfing at StartXchange. Because it’s not. Yes, StartXchange would show slightly higher but not significantly enough to make any kind of deal out of it.
So I guess the point of this post is to bring it back to what Kjell, Jon, Bo, and Gary said in yesturday’s post. It really should be about results! Stats are nice to see on exchanges to indicate growth, but because there is no standard you really can’t compare them from one place to another. The only way you can really compare, is your own individual results. As the saying goes.. ”results may vary”!

A very good point indeed, results are what every body is after, without results you are wasting time and effort. Results are not only attributed to the exchange you are using but the opportunity and system you are using.
If you are not using a capture page and are simply selling someone else’s product then your results will definitely be different regardless of which exchange you are using. Tim, thank you for the comment on my blog but the article I was referring to was the one on PTR, it is a definite read for anyone using this method to make money online. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Tim

Let’s say you are running an ad that promises $10 into anyone’s Paypal account if they sign up for your list. Where would you run that ad? In the TE’s that have 10 people surfing or the TE’s that have over 100 actively surfing?
And once you’ve saturated the exisiting surfing crowd where would you go for more signups as time goes by? The TE’s bringing in the most new members or the ones with few new members?

We all say we have the best traffic exchange-) We are hundreds of exchanges that “Fight” about to get the few thousands surfers that are surfing tto surf our exchanges, and that is fair enough.
Tim, how many are really surfing traffic exchanges? Any idea how many that are really using traffic exchanges?
We can talk forever about what exchange is best or not, but its the members that decide what exchange they like and what exchange they get their results from.
Some like teamsurfing, some like games and competitions, some like to surf and chat, some just like to surf without anything, just click for credits, we are all different.
Maybe the exchanges should find a way to track on how many signups they give, Tim job for you-)

Is there a way to track your TE results like you do with a banner ad or text ad. (I am guessing not based on Kjell’s post, but…..).
I am trying to determine which TEs are giving me the best results, but I am missing something here.
Thanks.

There are lots of tracking tools, but the most popular tracking service is hitsconnect.
Some exchanges have tracking that track were the signup to that exchange are coming from, sx and lot have it, its a good tool and there you can check what exchanges work or not.

I always find your post interesting. I have looked at those activity number on the screen and never really thought about how they were being determined.
I did pay attention to those figures but now I use some of the stat tracking that blogs now provide to determine how my sites are rating.
It gives me a clue as to what TE’s to spend more time on.
