This is what I was promoting

by Tim on August 22, 2009

Last post about what's hot and what's not, Denise asked what I was promoting. Well this is what I was promoting. You are reading it right now. The blog. Yep, crazy right? Nobody pays me $1 to promote it. I must be crazy!

Actually it's this mad scientist experiment to see how long you'd actually stay subscribed! ha. ha! AHAHHA!

No but really, do you notice I periodically recommend products or services? For instances Clickbank Pirate, or Guru Ambush, or Pizza Plan, etc. Notice I didn't say promote, I said recommend.

On average subscribers to my blog never unsubscribe. So thoseĀ 48,603 views turned into 357 people I can keep on emailing endlessly. It cost me roughly $1 per subscriber when you do the math. But I get to email you everyday. (I don't always, but I could).

Now compare that to surfing and direct promoting affiliate links. In the example below I tried to get Bob, Joe, Tom, and Jan to join StartXchange, TezakTrafficPower, ILoveHits, and Traffic-Splash. But since I'm limited on traffic I could only get them each to join one thing during Day 1. Day 2, I didn't have the time to surf so I didn't even turn the computer on.

So Day 1 I got 4 signups to 4 different programs. Not bad, signups are signups right? But what if I could get more from the same amount of time? On top of that I'm going to go on vacation for a week and get signups while I'm on the beach (yeah right, me vacation? hahahaha)!!

example001b

Here's the scenario. Rather than them join each exchange directly, I'm going to get them to join my autoresponder! That way I not only get to tell them about the 4 different programs, but I can even do it without any extra effort because it's done automatically via email!!!

So now the same amount of surfing on Day 1 resulted in 4 signups to all 4 programs, which in return is 16 signups!

Now obviously Bob might not sign up to one of the exchanges one day. But imagine if that day he didn't join it while seeing it in rotation? That 16 turned to a 15, but that 4 turned to a 3! BIG difference.

This is the same thing I do with my blog. It has an auto responder, but it's got the wordpress ooo ahhh factor to it too. So when you subscribe to my blog you'll get an email every few days recommending a product or service. I just get to login to those services and see I got commissions and wonder where on earth they came from because I'm not promoting it anywhere because I forgot the autoresponder was even working ;-)

I'm hoping this visual will help you understand the phrase "the money is in the list". It really is.

in short build a relationship with your readers before getting them in your downline

you just promote 1 squeeze page and eventually get them into (maybe not everything) but most of your programs

Discuss trick and tips on List Building

Even though I have added all three email addresses to my address book, messages from the blog’s responder continue to be marked as “spam” even though they rarely contain any of the “trigger” words that prompt such designation.

I thought using Aweber would result in better deliverability and fewer “spam” designations. ???

Using capture pages, as is being touted everywhere these days, rather than simple splashes leading to sign-up pages, leads to a whole ‘nother set of problems.

My advice: Don’t start a list unless you’re ready to maintain it. But, on the other hand, it cannot be disputed that “the money is in the list.”

Your blog promotes products and exchanges, so if you get subscribers we all know what you promote. Right?

Solomon Huey August 22, 2009 at 10:43 am

Nice way to illustrate the value of building your list Tim. Hopefully that opens some eyes and gets more people signing up for autoresponder accounts :)

Excellent!!… the list..the list..the list.. the money is in the list!!!

Hey Tim,

I agree with Solomon and Jon. The only place where I ever assign credits that don’t build my list directly is on my own exchange, but I’m actually going to start using a sneaky way to build my list with other programs too.

It’s completely legit though.

Best regards,

Michael Coursey
