Let's Change This Splash Page

by Tim on February 7, 2009

Ok so obviously that splash page wasn't working. Is it time/branding, or is it the copy? I created 8 variations of the splash page using some advanced scripting and tracking, and I'm going to see the results. At the same time I'll still be testing which exchanges are bringing home the bacon. On Monday I'll get the new top exchanges list and make sure I'm stock piled at each exchange. But for now, I'll stay stock piled at the current top 10.

You can click them all to see the full page. Essentially the 3 variations were photo/no photo. Headline with "our/My" and an alternating subheadline. So what headlines would you have used? In a week I'll update the test and use your suggestions, and 1000 credits will goto the headline that converts the most!

If you should go with Get My Free Weekly Report, you should probably have an explanation of who you are? Well, people might know you from your picture though.

I would have written something just below your image. Something like, Tim Linden owner of StartXchange, The most popular traffic exchange in history :-)

I like being personal when it comes to marketing. But in order to be personal, it’s important that people trust you, and understand that you’re an authority.

That being said, if you’re not sure if people know who you are from your picture, then, I would go with the other headline.

Hi Tim!

I would change the headline around a bit.

“Maximize YOUR results
By using the TOP exchanges

Get your FREE weekly report that tracks over 5000 rotators, to give you statistics that are completely unbiased.”

Leave out that last sentence. It doesn’t work with the rest of it. You need to focus on the “you” by emphasizing what the report can do for the user.

Hope this helps. Keep up the good work!

Hi again!

Almost forgot. Use the picture, and underneath it put the words “presented by” and the persons name if at all possible.

Time,

Branding (picture) and personalizing (“My”) is what grabs me when I surf.

John February 8, 2009 at 11:34 am

Tim,

Although I’m not very good at copy, here’s my 2 cents worth anyway.

I think your headline needs to emphasize the unique selling points of TEL. “It’s unbiased” is a pretty weak way of capturing the following points:

a) Only statistics are used to generate the list, not personal gain.
b) 5000 rotators ensure that the list is impossible to cheat.
c) the massive number of TE’s included ensures a very wide sample.
d) only unique IP-addesses are considered.

It’s impossible to sum this up in a few words, so I would go for a more personal view like:

“I get the BEST results by using the BEST TE’s”

or challenging the reader like:

“How do know if you’re surfing the best exchanges?”

As I said, just my 2 cents worth.

John

Hi Tim,

nice but what do you think about moving the traffic stats in upper right corner centered underneath the sign up form as a clincher?

BinkyM February 8, 2009 at 2:52 pm

In addition to John’s points (which are excellent), I’d add that making the FREE part kind of grey (and therefore less prominent and sort of washed out) strikes me as kind of subdued, as if you’re kind of underplaying it.

Also, if you haven’t got a photo of you that doesn’t look stoned and confused, then for heaven’s sake, use someone else’s photo! That photo is TERRIBLE! You’ve got all this technology at your fingertips; use it! No one wants stats from a stoner/doofus! Ideally, the photo would have a background the same color as/similar color to the colors already on the page.

Interesting ~ if I was new to TE’s and saw any of the above, no way would I click and sign up! – it’s too confusing.

I think it needs to be a
PS at the bottom of emails sent to exisitng SX members

Hi Tim, have you tried a variation on background color, don’t underestimate the power of color. Yes Green is the top choice but Red and Yellow stir that fight or flight mode in all of us.

Thanks all for your ideas, keep them coming! At the end of this week I’ll end the current test, and then try your suggestions ;-)

Hey Tim, here’s an idea:

Stop clicking for your Traffic…StartXChanging It!

Well, hope this helps…
