If you're not a fan of my facebook page, you missed out on a great opportunity. I was asking for fans to send me a link to their splash pages, and I picked one to test out.
The splash page I chose was Debbie Nelsen's for Juice Plus. It was made using the TEtoolbox editor. What got my attention about this one is: 1) it was made by the person 2) it was small and to the point 3) it had an interesting item it was advertising
So I made an exact copy of the page, added my tracking, and sent 4,937 views to the page. The results were quite interesting. There were only 11 clicks on the links on the page, but the heatmap testing showed there were many more clicks on the page itself, primarily around the top bullet points.

From watching other people, I've noticed some people like to click on the pages when the read - especially bullets or paragraphs, almost like they are holding their place while reading.
What I would do, is keep the top bullet points and try doing an auto responder form at the bottom that says something like "Want to find out the solution?". Make sure there is the little disclaimer saying you won't sell the info or give it out, and they can unsubscribe anytime.
Then you can email them every few days talking about the various products, how they fill the need, etc. I think what might be happening here is that after reading the bullets the timer is up and they continue surfing. Having a quick way to get more info without having to stop surfing might improve the results.
Note I said might! There is only one way to find out for sure.. Try it!

There is also the possibility that the clicks on the page were due to people focusing the browser with a click. I do it all the time and accidentally click on links occasionally when I do it too… >_>
I love the heatmaps.
It’s really nice to be able to see where more people are clicking more to help your website by finding out what visitors like more of and less of.
I’d love to see more heat maps on the blog!
WOW! Thanks Tim for picking me. I am honored. I did think of an autoreponder and am thinking more about it. Thanks once again.

What more people do is think to themselves. I will click on and then finish reading this afterwards then kick themselves for being so stupid and probably click on the wrong one.
When I read that I thought how stupid then I watched my self and found I do it too and the thing I was interested in does not come up again that session and I look for days and perhaps forget it.
I also click the icon to move on before I click my move on the Joust or click the dolphin before I click someone for a bonus on traffic-splash. After hours of surfing one gets tired and does things the wrong way round.
And then you go and click on something that is the last thing you would be interested in.
TE Profits have it right there is a surfing disease.
How many people forget to do there CV slots before they leave Click Voyager or forget to claim their surfing rewards on Traffic Splash or you do them too soon.
The times I have claimed my surf rewards at 100 pages and then gone on to do more than 250.
Who knows what we all do but I do think most of it is meaningless.
Great post! How did you do the heat map?
I use to sell Juice Plus when it first came out a few years ago.
Brings back memories
I now have added a submission form! Thanks once again.
Jeff I’d be glad to see you come back to JP! ;)
