Free Resource For Owners

One of the biggest questions I get from other owners, especially newer owners, is “what do you think about xyz, do you allow it in rotation?”.

Simply put, many people don’t know how to check a site for bad content. It can get really geeky so I love it, but if you aren’t a geek you won’t know what to do.

So I wanted to give you all a free resource to check those sites you are unsure about – The TEtoolbox Checker. Simply put the URL in there, click Check and you’ll see the results.

It’s still a good idea to learn how to spot bad sites, because the checker can get things wrong. But it’s another tool for you to have on your side to help keep rotation clean.

…But what does it actually check for?

And does it work for rotators who implement TERP headers?

    • Tim says:

      Good questions!

      1) It checks for frame breakers, exploits, malware, and other “baddies”. It also checks against a banned list (which, albeit small now is steadily growing).

      2) No. As you can imagine it was designed for TEtoolbox so I didn’t think to make it check the TERP headers. But not a bad idea, so will be looking into it ;-)

Amazing stuff. Cheers buddy. More over-delivery. Keep it coming – looking forward to the next bit of your “secret project”.

  3. Interesting Tim, but the link you posted has a simple entry box with a check button.

It doesn’t matter what you put in that box, it returns the same results. Even if you leave the box blank and just click “check,” it still returns a result of success!

Are you sure you put the right code on that page?

    Awesome, but needs work!

I tried a few sites from my list that I have removed or reported for framebreaker, popunder or popup dialog boxes, and got “pased” results.

    Only failed was this one:
    https://www.alertpay.com/?Bwt4h8skPY%2fMiYPhB6P89A%3d%3d
    FAIL – Invalid Key

    Thanks for caring and sharing

  5. Hi Tim, I’m not a TE owner, at least not yet. but I wanted to add my two cents anyway because I’m curious are the programs from the inside.
I do have a question though. When you talk about frame breakers, is that when the site in rotation sort of steals the spotlight and takes the surfer directly to his/her site and doesn’t allow the credit go to the surfer from the TE? That is a real pain, in my opinion, because often I have to re-load the TE from start, and not just backclick it.

I do take note of these sites and avoid becoming enticed into membership no matter how good it looks. They make me angry. I never know what to do with them. So do you think we should email the TE owners if these sites or use the contact forms on site, if we know which site it is?

Yeah Tim, this doesn’t seem to be working. Just tried the bluehost and it passed…and we know that’s a framebreaker.

    • John says:

      Jackie,

I agree – I just tried the last 3 sites I banned (one was bluehost) and they all passed.

      I am NOT impressed.
