Connecting with other Owners

by Tim on August 9, 2010

It's been a while since I've connected with other traffic exchange owners like we did recently. I forgot to count how many where there, but there was a variety of newbie owners all the way to veteran owners in one room chatting.

We discussed a few topics that are relevant to our industry. Things like the dreaded pay to surf, traffic exchange associations, and other fun stuff. Anyways - if you are an owner fill out this form to be notified when we do it again. Note that I do filter out that list to owners only, so don't bother if you are trying to fake it.. I've got something better:

Tonight we're meeting in the TELive room at 6PM EST. This is open to anyone, there is no charge. We are looking for anyone who is enthusiastic about traffic exchanges! This isn't any kind of "club" or "GOB" meeting, we really do enjoy people with differences in opinions to come in and chit chat.

Far too often people forget that it's OK and even GOOD to disagree on topics and discuss them. As long as we are civil about it, and get into personal attacks, it can be a lot of fun. And so far we've been very successful at it!

Our owners meeting we had a variety of people come in, and there were disagreements but great discussions around them. And yeah there were things we agreed on too, and there might even be some fun things in store as a result of it.

So - come by tonight if you get this message soon enough, if not that's OK. We'll do more of them, and we are trying to do them at different times so different people can come. This time it's at 6PM, rather than the normal 8PM. Let's get chatting in the TELive room! (you can come by early or late btw)

I enjoyed the owners meeting. It brought a sense of community to TE owners. Plus, I learned alot. Looking forward to the next one.

I just posted to another blog regarding the pay-to-surf genre… I believe that all TE surfers who are in-the-know should boycott pay-to-surf.

When people are more focused on raking in pennies than getting quality traffic to their sites, I believe that makes them more likely to worry about getting as many clicks in as they can rather than viewing the sites in front of them.

People will be more likely to surf a ridiculous amount of TE’s at a time and the whole premise behind TE’s will be undermined. I would never place my sites on a paid-to-surf site. It reminds me of PTC.

Why is surfing for quality traffic not enough?

Stan Smith August 9, 2010 at 6:43 pm

You are absolutely right about that, Lora. Those pennies attract a whole different clientele and will weaken traffic exchanges & text ad exchanges that have surf ads.

Lora and Stan, bear in mind those sites can
and do expose all the te’s to new prospective
customers. These prospects could very well
turn into your greatest customer.
Try to think outside the box as to why the
people are doing it – what is their motive/
objective.
Sometimes the best prospects for your business
can comes from the most unlikely source.
Maybe it is a growth path that these people need
to walk inorder to get to the stage you at.

I enjoyed the meeting too. It’s really good to know that what I am experiencing as a new TE owner is not “out of the ordinary.” It happens to the big guys too.

I wanted to get to this meeting, but due to the timing this was not possible. Maybe next time.

Here here! I think it’s essential to have varying opinions out in the open. If everyone in the meeting thinks exactly alike.. there’s not much to discuss.

Some of the best ideas were born from disagreement. The meetings have been great, and a lot of fun in the process! Hopefully you guys will keep these meetings going on a semi-regular basis.

TE owners get together to discuss ideas and industry
standards is vital for the TE industry, as it is with
any other. Owners should always bear in mind that
the prospective client is potentially your best client.
Find out what they want and together the industry
will flourish.
A word of caution:
Beaware of The Owners Pedestal Syndrome, it is
the quickest way to lose touch with your business.

Was definitely disappointed that I missed last night’s Town Hall – I got screwed up on the time, fell asleep after TE Live, woke up thinking I had time to get there and realized that 7pm EST meant I’d already slept through over an hour – plus it was storming again and you know how my Internet hates rain. Will be looking forward tomorrow @ TE Live to hearing what all went down.

The ones I’ve made in the last couple of weeks (Town Halls and owner’s meetings) have been great. I really do believe that communication and bouncing info & ideas between owners/users/everyone can only benefit us all no matter how big or little we are.

Tim,
I’m really keen to join one of your meetings and as I’m UK based I’m looking forward to an even earlier start time for some of your events!
