Advertising Outside Traffic Exchanges

by Tim on February 26, 2009

Does it even exist? =P LOL of course! I've been thinking of different ways to advertise StartXchange to non traffic exchange members. Search and Safelists come to mind, what do you think? It's the age old question, but when you provide traffic the pressure is on to bring in more and more new people every day!

I'm not doing bad..  In fact, I'm doing great! Averaging 80 new members to StartXchange per day, but I want to DOUBLE that! So, help me out here, where would YOU advertise if you maxed out your advertising on traffic exchanges? Do you even advertise outside of exchanges?

Don't worry, I'm not saying TEs don't work..  They do! I just want to make more people aware of them, so they work even better. I know some of you might find it overwhelming to advertise in a bazillion areas all at the same time. That's why as owners we need to bust our tail off to make sure you are getting the most new people seeing your site as possible, at all times. It's a constant never ending battle, so I'm open to any ideas, no matter how crazy they may seem!

Hi Tim,
good ad responses from social sites, facebook, twitter, qassia, squidoo..etc.

Article marketing and ezines.
Just use proper etiquette at these sites. They do work.

Robert.

I really don’t advertise much outside of traffic exchanges. And I mostly advertise on traffic exchanges bringing in people from outside of traffic exchanges

My suggestion is to create partnerships with people who have membership sites outside of traffic exchanges and feed each other’s sites with thank you page ads and a few broadcast emails

Although it is most common to advertise Traffic Exchanges within other traffic exchanges, I have also used links in my websites; links within articles I have written; Paid To Read / Paid To Click sites – both paid ads, and also static ads on their home page / members page; word of mouth – I often use StartXchange as an example of how to market online when talking to people (last week I was talking to the sales manager of a local radio station, and she was really interested in the concept) You can also add it to email signatures, social networking sites, error pages for websites, Business cards – create a neat profile and put the profile link on your card, add it to your answerphone message – “I can’t answer the phone right now, I am surfing StartXchange, come and join me…”

I am sure if I brainstormed a bit more I could think of more :)

Hi Tim

I’d certainly Twitter, and it can’t hurt to use places like USfreeads.

I’m shortly going to be putting up pages on my Blog about Traffic Exchanges too. (I used them some years ago, but have only recently come back to them – some of my old registrations were still valid too!)

Love the tips and ideas – keep ‘em coming.

I don’t know how effective it is yet, but I just signed up with a company that displays Websites on a SCREEN SAVER!

Hi Tim!!

I think a “well rounded” approach is called for. You are already using Twitter (and Facebook?). I use social bookmarking and articles or Blogs for traffic generation, along with Safelists and TE’s.

Beth, I’ll try to find your group at Sta.rtUP.biz-sounds fun.

My biggest problem is that I am a weekend marketer because that is the time I have available. Sometimes it is hard to keep the momentum going..LOL

I use other traffic exchanges, safelists, and blasters. I have found a site that has some really good ones, lots of leads and they are replenished regularly. I don’t do social stuff right now, I haven’t got the time. I am also a weekend marketer!

The biggest drawback to safelists is the sheer amount of mail you get . Thank God for Gmail!!!!

I use several different methods to advertise outside Traffic Exchanges. One of them that is about as misunderstood and bad mouthed as Traffic Exchanges is Safelist.

Safelist like Traffic Exchanges has a learning curve but once you either figure it out or get help to figure it out they are very effective.

If I am using Safelist to add to my mailing list I can pick up 5 to 10 additional sign ups with each mailing.

You have to remember that Safelist you would market to like Traffic Exchanges. You are mailing to people who want more traffic.

A mailing to me is sending to 10 safelist a day. Once you learn how you can send to 10 safelist in about 20 minutes pretty easily.

There are many more ways to advertise out there that I use that work but Traffic Exchanges and Safelist are my two most effective. Even in highly specialized niche sites like some of my sites are.

Thanks

Hi, generally I advertise, apart TEs and Safelists, on Text Ads Exchanges and Adwords but only for important things.

Another unbelievable source of advertising can be a targeted topic Forum or Ezine articles.
And my blog, but don’t tell it… :)

That’s ok !

I have used many surf for traffic. Could you give any option to add traffic.

Chris February 28, 2009 at 6:47 pm

Hello,

I find the best ways to market online are traffic exchanges, safelists, press releases (free and paid), articles, blogs, squidoo, forums, word of mouths, JV’s.

I do a little bit of all the above. I’m also starting to work with Twitter a lot and so far its going great for the little bit of work I put into it.

Alice Stanforth February 28, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I like your ideas and suggestions. They are great. I find the best advertising, for my website, is by responding to blogs and articles. There are benefits in many ways, including the search engines. Its all free advertising.
Thanks.

I like using First, social network sites the most, Second, safelist and Third Classifies like Pyrabang media and Adboards. Adboards have really done well for me but I could do much better with consistency.

Nancy Radlinger March 4, 2009 at 5:35 am

My first choice is TE’s but I do use a variety of advertising sources. Included are NING social sites, solo ads on the ad exchanges, blogs, lens on squidoo and just found this new site that has done well for me – it’s little different than the rest. http://www.vinefire.com/?ref=[email protected]
