It's been a while since I've done a review, but John Chow peaked my interest with his new book titled "Make Money Online" and is asking for reviews. So here it is:
So basically the only thing I disagree is the part about the name. Which, he states using his name is one of the two biggest blogging mistakes he's made. But I'm not so sure about that.
Yeah, you can't really sell the site, but the readers are much more loyal. That's because they get to know you. It's becoming personal rather than a corporate feel you have no problem forgetting about.
I also think blogging with your name is great because you may launch and sell businesses, but by having a blog you've got a place for loyal readers to always find you. I could sell off all my business assets, start something fresh tomorrow, and you guys would still be there.
Other than that one tip, I agree with the rest. He goes into some basics and more detailed areas. If you don't have a blog it's great because you can learn all the tricks in one spot. If you have one already, you can skim the areas you know already and fix up your blog where you've forgotten.
Oh and I did a photo too, I'm sure you'll all love it:

Hey Tim,
WOW! You are so cool on your new video!
I see you have your branding down to a science,
even T-shirt colors.
I find the name question some what complicated.
It all depends on your area of marketing.
Most Gurus without a personal name branding
would probably starve.
The blog thing is a little different. Blog
titles need to SE friendly. How many people
go searching for “Tim Linden’s Blog” unless
they are in your network already.
Using “Houseofmax” on my affiliate links,
websites, blogs posts and article marketing
serves the same purpose, but does allow me
to cover more bases than just a prsonal name.
LOL, love the pic at the end that just makes it hahaha.
But good point about using your own name for your blog, There are different ways of blogging and going about it. If I am promoting something that is a bit out of my niche that I am known for I often will use a made up name as I do not really want to write are article or blog posts and put my name to it for bird houses or something along the lines of that. I do a lot of that with the affiliate marketing I do.
John Chow is one of the kings of the blogosphere, but… I do agree with your point of having a blog with your name on it. My main site, which carries my name, has a blog on it just to keep my affiliates informed of what I am working on next. Another site, which is named for a pseudonym (which I am known for on social networks), is purely a blog site that gives marketing tips.
If you are creating a niche blog for people who do not know you, then the URL should be something that relates to that niche. Many of my umpteen blog sites I own have good quality SEO driven names to bring in traffic and make me money; but, for those who know me (and my personal branding); the two sites with my real name and pseudonym keep them coming back… and makingme money. ;-)
If you are branding yourself, it is always a good idea to have a site with your own name (or pseudonym) on it.
Yeah I guess the difference is, if people know who you are using your name has benefits. If they don’t, then it won’t really help until you have built a name.
I think you should brand your real name and maybe something else. I am branding myself as “The Silver and Gold Man” My Facebook, Twitter and Youtube accounts are branded this way. The silver and gold niche is my main niche and I plan to be in it for years to come. I like your blog and I always stop by to check out your sites. Rock on man!

please forward the link to purchase the book make money online your holding up I make some cash flow online now but I’m tried of bang my head against the wall doing it. Basically there has to be a way to work smarter then I am now.
Very cool video and post, thanks for sharing it Tim. You make a very good point, I like visiting blogs of people who get personal with their readers.
Going for the iPad Tim :)
The personal domain name is debatable. I think John was fortunate to have a simple name that’s easy to recall. I mean, not everyone would remember JeremySchoemaker.com BUT Shoemoney is easy to remember and is sly at the same time. Shoemoney built a brand around his moniker and he’s evidently more successful than John.
My opinion ;)
This is an interesting topic for open discussion. Everyone’s reply/comment/opinion makes sense. “What’s in a Name?”
Recognition. What’s easy to recall, what’s easy to remember, just the one thing that made “Pepsi” and “Coke” (Coca-cola) a name to content with.
Uncle Buck, Uncle Tom, Dick and Harry…. Again, “What’s in a Name?”
That’s who/what you are. The “name” is what will make or break a person/website . One word, one name describe it all.
Thank you.
