List Surfing Review
List Surfing launched last thursday with a little bit of a bump. You see, the buzz was so high that the server was overloaded! And yes, it was on a dedicated server =P
The reason for all the buzz is the unique idea: no surf ratio! Ok, so someone pointed out technically there is a ratio but not for traffic LOL You are earning credits for sending emails. Its list builder meets traffic exchange.
So what you do is you surf 50 pages a month and click 10 email links a month to remain active. Being active means you’ll get an unlimited amount of traffic to your website. Then on top of that your surfing earns you email credits for a double whammy approach to advertising.
When I first heard about this I was a bit concerned, I’ll be honest. I didn’t understand the whole no surf ratio thing. So after going back and forth with List Surfing owner Darren Olander I realized the potential. The only thing to remember is that there are two ways to advertise here – it’s easy to focus on only the traffic side or the email side and not create ads for both.
So what’s the verdict? Well so far I surfed the minimum 50 sites and received 1178 hits and 21 new subscribers to the blog as a result! That’s great! As for the email side, well I’ll re-iterate the whole don’t forget about both thing because I did. I’m going to try to test that part out this week.. (feel free to post your results in the comments!)

I was a bit upset on the first hour of launch when the server was overloaded needless to say however it was all for the best. This site is really rocking and rolling to be honest. I picked up start pages that are running this week and WOW to the results over 1,500 visitors to them in the first day. 21 new sign ups to my traffic exchange and on my 2nd start page I have my aweber squeeze page running OVER 36 new opt ins! AMAZING! Cool thing is they allow you to change your start pages on the fly so no more waiting around or having to keep the same page up all week. Very cool unique system that is going to keep growing.
Hi Tim
A very helpful little explanation. I’m already in ListSurfing and you’ve just clarified how it works for me.
Thanks

Tim,
I have two concerns with this way of generating traffic.
1) After a while there will be so many sites in circulation that they will hardly be shown. After all, 50 views per month per member does not add up to dramatic traffic. Even if there were 10,000 active members, that’s only 500,000 page views per month.
2) Most people who sign up will be concerned about the number of e-mails they receive so they sign up with a gmail account that they clear out once a month, after reading 10 e-mails.
I’m intrigued how these potential problems are or will be tackled.

Tim,
You know, reminders are great :)
I tend to agree with that saying, ‘out of sight, out of mind’. I just went and did my 50 sites, so now I’m active. But I also think it’s important to utilize BOTH aspects of List Surfing and do more than just surf a monthly 50.

I am intrigued with the concern of others regarding “e-mail” Ads. Safelist Mailings and reciprocation have kept a steady flow of new sign-ups in my Funnel for years.

I spend 1 hour day on my Safelist advertising system. Nice ROI

I too was concerned about numbers. I do notice the ratio of trading credits has been lowered. I imagine a lot of tweaking will be needed on this thing. I also forgot about the email thing, and was shocked to get 10 emails from listsurfing. Then remembered I need to read! We’ll see. I will give credit that it is unique. Not the same ‘ol same ‘ol. Time will tell.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the review, I have also joined Listsurfing few days ago and surfed the minimum 50 pages. I do notice that my site does get a few hits a day. Not too sure if once it grows bigger, will there be many members who will be surfing more than the required.
At first I wasn’t sure how unique the idea was and like others was frustrated with the slow, overloaded server. However, I think you have summed it up pretty correctly in that there is more here than meets the eye and like most sites it is likely to take some time and effort to figure out all that it can do for you. I don’t think the email thing is a huge issue, but alas from a guy who already receives 2,000 or more a day…LOL

No surfing ratio isn’t new by any means. Traffic Swarm offers random credits (1-5) for surfing text links. They have been at it since 2001, also.
I think Traffic Swarm was the first TE I ever used.

Yeah but this doesn’t even have credits! (ok, there are credits but they aren’t used for traffic)
I’ve seen this one around, but hadn’t checked it out yet. Guess I’ll have to join. I already get tons of mail, and few more won’t hurt!
Thanks,
Carole
I like the exchange, TIm. The functionality is good, and the list building/email feature is a convenient add-on. I give it an 8 for now…

Tim’s results:
‘Well so far I surfed the minimum 50 sites and received 1178 hits and 21 new subscribers to the blog as a result!
That’s great!’
My results:
Lifetime Pages Surfed: 280
Lifetime Credits Earned: 56.6001
Your site(s) have received 76 hits this week!
That’s not so great – lol
Question is how the hits are distributed in this system.
What criterias determines how many hits gets who?
The credits aren’t for hits. Credits are for sending out email.
The hits are given randomly to the websites of active members. So if you are active, you’ll get your share of the traffic.
Just remember that I had my URL in when lots of new members weren’t active yet, so there were less URLs in rotation. We should all be getting about the same traffic (I would think) on a daily basis, but my first day started before yours ;-)
