SpamBayes vs Email Spam

This article is more of a review and recommendation than teaching you anything. But really, how are you going to know something exists if people don’t tell you about it?

GMail SPAM Filtering vs SPAMBAYES Filtering
I found out about this program, because I was reading a topic in the Gmail Google Group - The topic was called GMail SPAM Filtering vs SPAMBAYES Filtering. I had no idea what SpamBayes was, so I of course went to Google and started a quest of my own.

SpamBayes on Source Forge
It wasn’t too quickly after searching did I find the SpamBayes website at spambayes.sourceforge.net. I almost gave up my quest for a good spam filter, because it kept mentioning Outlook or “other” mail clients. Great - I’d have to figure this out myself??

SpamBayes & Outlook Express
Well nothing to fear - there was a very good description of what to do, I just had to find it on the FAQ page. To make it easy for you, I’ll link directly to the answer.

SpamBayes Accuracy
I think the key to the accuracy of SpamBayes is the “Unsure” folder. Instead of having good email lost in the spam bin (which you get a filter to remove that problem), it puts it in the unsure bin. Then you only have to sort through a small amount of mail.

So far, I’ve only had ONE good email marked as spam. And guess what, that was the first time I checked my mail with SpamBayes, because it hadn’t learned anything yet.

Currently I am not getting spam in my inbox, and no good email has even made the unsure list. I have to say I am very impressed at this program, and I highly recommend you try it out!
