Twitter Me Fun

by Tim on December 13, 2008

Well I had a fun idea, and whipped this idea into an actual thing. Basically it's like a friend builder of sorts for Twitter. You follow the people in the list, and then it adds you to the list. Eventually a bazillion people will have a bazillion people in their list. If you have any comments or tell people about it, please link them to this post as I may change the URL to the script.

Twitter Me Fun Moved:
http://www.timlinden.com/blog/tools/twitter-me-fun/

I realized that having it on a blog post, not a page, made it get hidden quite quick in my archives. Sorry about any confusion or broken links, but really it's still here so not huge deal k?

Hey Tim,

Awesome app. This is a really cool idea. It will be interesting to see how it affects my Twitter account.

Tim I am trying to just get some views on my site. What is a sure way to attract people to look at a site?

http://www.VemmaBuilderMatrix.com

I have worked with Ad words with some luck, but I have not been at the top of the first page. Is there a trick?

Would you recommend using youTube to promote a website?

Thank you

Jerry Iannucci December 13, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Very cool.

Been getting new followers all day.

Will be interesting to see what happens when there are a few hundred people on the list.

Maybe at some point you can randomize the list and make it so you only need to follow X number of people to get added.

Jeannette Leduc December 13, 2008 at 10:32 pm

Great tool, Tim!

I am clicking to follow those not yet following, but twitter doesn’t seem to be adding them to the list of those I am following. Maybe Twitter is running behind with lots more people adding others to follow?

Now I know why I suddenly started to get more notifications of people following me today, thanks Tim!

Stefan Berg December 13, 2008 at 11:26 pm

Yeah… a really cool tool… 20 new followers today … I hope it will be a few 100′s lol…. Thanks again…

Dude, the welcome video is great idea. I have never seen something like this before. But it should open start only on homepage because after some time it is quite boring.

Tim December 14, 2008 at 9:18 am

lol it shows 3 times in case you click a few pages quickly before it loads. And its on every page so people coming in from search engines see it

Bo Tipton December 14, 2008 at 11:43 am

Suggestion for the script. Make it so that the most recent addition to the list is moved to the number 1 spot. Then when someone else joins, the number 1 person gets bumped to number 2, etc. as more ussers are added to the list.

Thanks. — Dennis

Right, done all that.

WHY have I done all that?

What use is it?

Allan

Karen Taylor December 15, 2008 at 8:41 am

Allan, I wonder why myself. I used to keep the Twitter tab or Twirl open all day and actually read the tweets. I used to actually read the text messages I get from ListBandit, et al. I used to actually pay attention to the websites I was viewing in traffic exchanges; now there’s little more than billboard ads. I read the first couple thousand intels when Quassia was in prelaunch before it became so much garbage. What IS the point? When there is too much drivel, we simply must tune it out. Unless you are trying to build your “page value” so you can sell your tweets (which you CAN do) or sell advertising space on your page (which you CAN do), why follow simply for the sake of numbers? Why solicit followers simply for the sake of numbers when you know that with the addition of each new follower the likelihood that anyone’s reading your tweets diminishes.

I’ve read the books but I still do not understand. Guess I’m just dense. I still prefer to follow folks in whom I have some interest, folks whose tweets are interesting, folks who have shared some info in their bios, folks whose pages are nicely done, folks who might be interested in what I have to say.

Ahhhh, it’s a numbers game. I just hate to see Twitter become nothing but a rolling ad board, like comments in most social networking sites’ discussions have become. Suck it in, Karen, and just do it. Okay, I will.

Travis Millward December 15, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Your Twitter feed only becomes filled with “Drivel” if you let it. Before I follow anyone back, I check out their recent tweets, and make sure that they aren’t just using Twitter as their personal ad-board. Now if they have something of value or interest to offer, I will definitely follow back.

Nice little app Tim. I’ve seen similar in other social media, and their effect on ‘follower’ numbers has always been good, although the quality of these followers and their interest level in your field isn’t really known without further research and communication – some will doubtless become great friends/business associates, yet some may never even log into Twitter again.

A truly awesome tool. My followers jumped from 600ish to almost 750 in a few days. And they are all people who either read this blog, nmf or other IM sources so this list is as targetted as it gets.

Hope the momentum continues.

The Twitter exchange is a good idea; however, there are too many MLM folks on that list. My experience with MLM people is . . . SPAM. Too much SPAM.

Perhaps a Twitter exchange that works like BlogExplosion.com would offer a nice alternative?

Tim,

I was #43 – brownmob. I changed my user name last week to RickBrown1, and while I was able to maintain my Twitter account and followers, I messed up your list.

My apologies to you and the rest of the list.

I see you removed my account. Hope you’ll consider re-adding.

Even if not, thanks for what you do!

Cheers!
Rick
