The Heart of Worship.. NOT at QBC

by Tim on July 23, 2005

The following post is here for historical reasons. Please read the Official Apology that references this post.

Well aparently we won't be singing "The Heart of Worship" at QBC anymore, because it goes against "the doctrine of total depravity". All the things I've found on this doctrine have all explained that without Christ all of mankind will sin on its own and go towards the dark and not the light. Apparently the phrase "Longing just to bring.. Something that's of worth.. That will bless Your heart" is against this doctrine, and so we shouldn't sing it at Church.

I know I didn't goto school and study doctrine and all, but it just doesn't make sense why this would be going against the doctrine. All that I have found is talking about mankind before Christ, and this song is supposed to be worshiping God. I don't know, this just doesn't make sense.

I beleive we have sung "Bless the Lord O My Soul" which has the verse "Let everything within me Bless His name".

I don't know, anyways read what Peter posted here.. Just another thing that frustrates me. Maybe a new parking lot would make it all better.

Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

When we Worship we shouldn’t be doing it for ourselves. We’re giving God our lives and just praising Him for who He is.

Looking on this doctorine (which with a quick Google provided me with Romans 8:8), would contradict Romans 8:5, which states:

“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that PLEASE the Spirit.”

The way Romans 8:8 was used to describe this doctorine goes far out of context with the rest of Romans 8 (which talks about people under their evil sin nature, NOT to people OF God — NOT Christians).

Another point of this is in Romans 3:10-11. This particular section states that all people are sinners. HOWEVER, if you read the next verses (21-31) you’ll see that Christ took our punishment at the cross and we are no longer slaves to sin and death.

As this is one of the lovely five points that John Calvin (where the term “Calvinism” comes), I could go on stating the other flaws in the other four points. One of which is the “election” process — which would come to mean that there is NO free will, and also mean that we should have no missionaries since everyone is already “predestined” to find God anyway.
