Requesting Referral Links

Please read this entirely before commenting.
I’ve been thinking about getting into other areas of advertising, and trying them out. So I’m looking to my growing readers for ways they are advertising their websites outside of traffic exchanges. I’ve joined a safelist once (and never used it), and paid a bit in Adsense, but that’s about it. The goal is to grow this blog to more than just traffic exchanges, but traffic in general.
So, if you’ve got some effective ways to get traffic please post URLs below. Limit 3 per person! Also note that this will trigger my comment spam system, so don’t try to refresh or anything if it gives you problems. I”ll see the comment and approve it. Also if you could include a brief description to convince me to try it that’d be cool too.

Hello Tim
You mentioned safelists, here is the one I’ve found to be most responsive:

Another place I use with good results is APSense:

Hi Tim,
Of course, the best “passive” advertising tool has got to be FreeTrafficBar.
You just install the bar, and everytime you surf like you normally do,
you earn credits that show your ads on other people’s bars:
http://freetrafficbar.com/h/60740/
It also has a great downline builder and some other tools.
Another great place to advertise is The Online Ad Network (TOAN):

You can post unlimited ads, and they are shown on a variety of sites.
Good luck in your advertising!

Hi Tim,
Most effective safelist for me is MuscleMails. It allows you click through their ads online for credits so your inbox is not always flooded.

Here are couple other sites for finding alternative methods for building traffic and referrals:
Moneylegs

I found that digging (as in digg.com) a blog that I had had online for over a year brought it to first-page of Google for the main keywords. Hope you find this helpful.

Hey Tim,
As you know, I am constantly looking for ways to increase advertising opportunities outside of the traffic exchange industry. Something I just recently created and think will be a good advertising resource is My Modern Ad. Its an ADBlog where members are able to post to the blog. Advertising is encouraged, and depending on your level of membership determines the frequency you can make a post. It has only been in existance for less than a month, so I am still tweaking the cosmetics, but I think it will be a great success. It would be an honor to have you as a member and receive feedback on your thoughts of the idea and site… http://www.mymodernad.com

Hi Tim
I use Leadsleap which is a viral contextual advertising in that your text ad will be shown in the systems newsletter to the members. It is free to join. I am not very good at explaining so go to the website to find out more.

Hello Tim,
I love forums. I get to know people in the general areas, help people get answers, basically build trust. I look for spam free forums that are heavily moderated. We have a new pay membership forum & those are great because you avoid the spam & run people. This is brand new & $2.50 a month to be able to post in all the sections. More sections to be added as needed. Information about this forum ->http://sherylloch.com/index.php/b/2008/04/23/the_internet_marketers_guild_community
I have been on Twitter about 2 weeks. I post a few times a day. Most post are just general things about my day but, when I do make a new post in my blog, I make a Tweet with the link. I have been getting hits & only have 10 followers.
I find that my best sales come from people I know from actually building a relationship with them over time. http://twitter.com/SherylLoch
I was sent a a deal for $5 a month ad in Bloggers & Podcasters Magazine This was recommended by the Blog Squad Ladies & they are really good at blog promotion even on a budget. I make no money off telling you this! You can see details ->http://sherylloch.com/index.php/b/2008/04/25/blog_squad_and_the_blogger_aamp_podcaste
I do hope this helps! I do run my blog on TE’s & have gotten attention when someone sees a head line they like.
Have a great day,
Sheryl Loch

Hi Tim,
I gain a tremendous amount of response from Credit Based Safelists. There is a growing list of them, because so many other people are getting the same results.
I tend to only stick with safelists that are credit based, i.e. there is a credit link in every email to earn credits for viewing the sender’s website…kind of like earning credits for viewing every website in a traffic exchange. In my tracking results, safelists that aren’t credit based are usually a waste of time - but, those are my results.
The three safelists that my tracking shows are the most responsive are:
AdSolutionLine - http://adsolutionline.com/safelistpro/s.php?weburl
FreeSafelistMailer - http://www.freesafelistmailer.com/s.php?weburl
GOT Safelist - http://gotsafelists.com/user/11273
It would definitely be worth your time to test a credit based safelist.

Thanks all. I think we got the safelist arena covered. Any more ideas?

A properly set up blog that is posted to regularly with good keyword research BEFORE posting can’t be beat if you add in consistent link building using services like onlywire, rss directories and commenting on others blogs like I am doing here.
Lots covered at http://wptutorial.com/blog
Also using podcasts and submitting your feed to I Tunes and other podcast directories can bring a lot of traffic. Works for http://amplificationmarketing.com/news/

Why not give away a free report / e-book / credits at startxchange to people who refer at least 3 people or more to your blog? A lot like ViralFriendGenerator from Mike Filsaime, you can add a banner for it in your sidebar or have a popover.
It’s really easy to refer 3 people, they only need to visit your blog, anybody can do that. This way, most people will want to give it a try if what you are offering them is interesting enough.
I bet you can make a script that will track if a person have referred three people to your website, and if they have, they will automatically be sent to a new page where they can download the gift :-)

Good SEO is the absolute best method for generating traffic in my opinion. Search Engine traffic is highly targeted and it converts well whereas many other methods do not.
As Mike said, this involves doing your research first and then building links over time.
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:29 pm
What if you installed the YouTube Keyword script, where you will get updated videos from YouTube showing videos from the keywords that you select?
For instance, you can make pages that will show videos for the keyword “traffic exchange” at your blog, or any other keywords. When your visitors will know that your videos always will be updated, they will come back again and again to see if there are any new videos.
You can take a look at the script here:

Hi Tim
I have been using Revenue Magic. It is really awesome and I am satisfied. I still have my favorite exchanges too.
Thanks for all the great info. I read your blog everyday.
Keep it up

Tim.
A great way to get more traffic to any page is to do what we are all doing right here… post comments onto blogs! :-)

Tim,
You have helped me out already. I give you: http://FreeBannerAdsWork.com
Sign up and then use the contact form to let me know who you are and your user ID for my site and I will set you up as a paid in full account. I pay people to view your banner ads (up to 3 and they can all be different and for different sites or the same), not just have them displayed You will also get text ads throughout the site and have personal messages sent to my members.
I also like: http://marketingcampaignpro.com/p/mcp/SolidSolutions
I am still new at this one, but the guy who runs it is really excellent and the basis of the site looks good to me. You get customized ad campaigns and more.

Tim,
I know this is not exactly what you are after but I would like to create some links back to your blog by posting some of your articles (with full resource box and links of course). I have two blogs aimed at assisting folks start and run a home business and much of what you right about so fits those arenas. I am also adding an article directory to one of my sites and I would love to include you there as well.
I know it is probably here and i have missed it - but do i have your permission to repost your articles and how would you like the refernece and links?
Thanks,
Ed
May 7th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Ed - For blog entries I’d prefer it if you used a snippet of the article, and had a link to do the full article. Part of the content is in member feedback, and also giving them a chance to subscribe and/or find the related posts. At some point I may make articles available for use in full, but at this time I do not have any - but thanks for the suggestion!

At Bux.to, you get paid to click on ads and visit websites. The process is easy! You simply click a link and view a website for 30 seconds to earn money. You can earn even more by referring friends. You’ll get paid $0.01 for each website you personally view and $0.01 for each website your referrals view. Payment requests can be made every day and are processed through AlertPay. The minimum payout is $10.00.
Earnings Example
» You click 10 ads per day = $0.10
» 20 referrals click 10 ads per day = $2.00
» Your daily earnings = $2.10
» Your weekly earnings = $14.70
» Your monthly earnings = $63.00
The above example is based only on 20 referrals and 10 daily clicks. Some days you will have more clicks available, some days you will have less. What if you had more referrals? What if there were more ads available?

Hi Tim
This is one of my 4 best way to advertise my website, at the same time costumers see all the get and more for a simple donation, cause thats the way it should be call, not payment, And with the right exchange the result are great plus the knowlege is unlimited.
