Memorization Tool

by Tim on January 3, 2006

I want to memorize more scripture, and I found a really cool tool to help me do so. I made something similar for studying for tests in college, and was going to make one for Bible memory. However I don't need to now.

It is 100% free! It is actually a tool within e-Sword. Simply download e-Sword and click on Tools -> Scripture Memory. You can:

  • Study by Associate Reference (it displays the verse, you select the reference from 6 choices)
  • Study by Fill in the Blanks (it shows the reference, and you fill in the blanks by clicking one of the 6 choices)
  • Study by Word Position (it shows the reference, and has all the words on the right. You must then click them in order)
  • Study by First Letter (it shows the reference, and you type the first letter of each word as it fills in the rest).

The great thing about it is that it tracks how many times you did something incorrect. I'm not 100% sure, but I beleive it then uses this to show you the verses you have trouble with more frequently (that is how I did the study tool).

The only down side to this is you are limited to the Bibles that e-Sword is authorized to use. There are a way ton of Bibles, but NIV is not one of them. My Church uses the ESV, which is available free, so I'm fine with that. (many free Bibles can be added into it, and some require you to pay, and others won't let e-Sword use them even if you pay)
