If I Didn’t Reply To Your Email

I recently had a comment from someone in the blog who was upset that I mentioned “Where is the Owner” in the Bad Exchanges series. They said they sent me 3 emails and I never replied. That being said, it can happen alot with me. So here are some of the reasons why I might not have replied:

  • I have 1121 unread emails - Yeah, so maybe I didn’t get to it yet. Be patient.
  • You send it to the wrong address - If you send an email to admin@startxchange.com… It better be about StartXchange, and it better be hand written by you. Anything else.. DELETED! This email account is higher priority as it is supporting members of my exchange. As such sending anything else there is only wasting my time I should be spending on doing support.
  • You sounded spammy - Gmail is great, but spam still gets through. If you sent me an email that looks spammy well it probably got reported as spam. Don’t ask me to swap links with you. Don’t invite me to join any programs.
  • I don’t know who you are - This category is kinda tricky, but obviously I don’t know who all of you are. So tell me who you are, tell me you subscribe to my blog, and tell me why you are emailing me. I get plenty of emails that just don’t make sense, and it sounds like it’s a question but it also looks like those spammer emails that try to get you to reply so they know you are real and to spam the life out of you.
  • I haven’t gotten to it yet - This is a good one to repost. There are 50 emails waiting for me related to support, 1071 related not to support. If you are not contacting me about StartXchange you are 1074th in line (yes, I just got 3 more emails in the time it took to write this).
  • You contacted me every way possible - Ok, so if you email me, IM me, and PM me on every forum and post in the comments I’m likely to not reply. That only wastes my time re-reading the same information.
  • You want to buy my traffic exchange script - That just tells me you didn’t read the page that tells all about it. It’s highlighted and bolded that I no longer own the traffic exchange script or have anything to do with it! Really now, if you can’t click the traffic exchange link under scripts and read it for yourself, I’m not going to bother replying.
  • You get my name wrong - That’s just a no brainer. DELETED.

So there you have it. I’m not trying to be some elitist person that has all these rules for contacting them. I’m just giving you the facts. I’d like to reply to every email right away, but I have to prioritize. And part of that sometimes means ignoring people who haven’t taken the time to do proper research (like the scripts) or that are clearly high maintenence and think they get to have all my attention all the time (the contact me every way possible). This way I can better help the people who are getting their hands dirty and just need some pointers, not step by step instructions =P

Kudos to you Tim, your attitude is warranted and I appreciate having this blog to refer to for information.

As far as emails go, you are right, there is just so much junk coming in, how could anyone possibly get to emails that are important or need replies.

I feel honored to have received a reply from you recently and have taken into account the quality advice that you so generously gave. Keep your focus, we all love what you do in this blog and at Startxchange.

Timmusch, you oughtta mung your StartXchange support email address in this blog post so bots won’t grab it, or you’ll get an order of magnitude more spam at that address! =:-o

Without set guidelines, what would anyone have to follow? No roads and we are all wandering about :) All busy people should state their list just as you have here, it makes life easier to stay in touch, Thank you :)

I can relate and can understand. I think all of these should be rules for sending e-mail to businesses or work-related e-mails. :)
