Frozen Pipes. Ugh.

by Tim on January 31, 2007

Well I've had some frozen pipe experience already. The house we are living in is very old, and has no basement. The pipes have frozen twice now, and we were able to get them unfrozen pretty easily.

The problem is now the drain is frozen. You see we were dripping the water to keep the pipes from freezing, but apparently that wasn't enough to prevent the drain from freezing.

Well I did a quick search and found a great website on plumbing. It said to put super hot water in the sink and lots of salt. I tried both of those already, however not at the same time (tried hot water, then later tried some salt). I'll first have to get as much water out that I can since it's all cold.

Thanks for the plumbing article ,as a property manager who does most of his plumbing
I found the site very useful.I write a newsletter to tenents each month and often find it hard to describe some of the preventive measures .Living in Canada and going through an other cold snap -20c-40c these tips are useful. If any one has any of this Global Warming ,please send it North ,Its a good job I have an internet business and can work from home.

Try some antifreeze maybe. Then see if you can get your landlord to put some foam insulation around the pipes.

I guess you live in a place almost as cold as Norway :-)

My pipes are not frozen, at least not yet.
