This non-profit organization from stanford university has created a distributed computing program that learns about proteins and how they fold. The folding happens so quickly that it takes computers a very long time to calculate how they do it. The distributed program is basically creating a huge computer out of our computers to do the work needed. It works behind the scenes and doesn't slow down your computer.
How you can help: Join my Folding team! A team is basically a way to show the combined efforts of the team members, and how much computing they contributed. I created a team so that way we could all easily see how each other are doing in the effort. It's simple to do. 1) Download the folding software, 2) Enter your own nickname into the config, 3) Enter team #40848.
Thats it! It takes a few days for each work unit to be completed, and we'll see the stats eventually (once someone on the team has completed something, I'll post a link so we can all see).
