I am going to be creating a new series on the blog about creating a list. You know the whole "money is in the list" kind of list. I've kinda calmed down on the security thing for a bit after getting more people canceling StartXchange upgrades, explaining that the reason is because of lack of results.
So for this series, I want you to create a list! I'll teach you how to create a list, 100% free, so there is no excuse. I expect you to follow along and create one, even if you feel you don't need one right now. You learn by doing, and at some point you'll want one so this will be a starting point.
What I ask about right now is that you post any questions or concerns you'd like me to address in building lists. I have ideas for 9 topics right now, but I'm not sure which ones are relevant or if I'm missing any. I don't want to bore you with details you don't need to know, but I don't want to miss areas you aren't sure about!
Oh, and a bonus! As I go through the series, feel free to post questions you might have to the posts. And at the end I'll let everyone post a link to a splash page they created during the series, so we can all see what everyone else has done, and maybe get a few signups in the process!

You mean like a list of people to market to. I guess the main questions, the ones I can think anyway, would be how to walk that line between legitimate marketing and spamming, especially with the many privacy concerns today and so many companies that are selling these lists. Is it every alright to sell contact information, even if one states they plan to. Most importantly how do you determine the specific interests of your group or build a really large group for that one small interest you are targeting. Or in blogging how do you with a blog addressing non-marketing and money making topics peak interest.
Also, how do you really peak interest without resorting to promising them the world, and things you cannot deliver (over inflated promises) vs. making no promising. In essence how do you find that middle ground? Furthermore, it seems like there are way too many people out there advertising yachts, car, girls, and money, if you will only follow their plan (even on Startxchange), and it is just getting to the point where there is an over saturation of these pyramids schemes. Please people it is just sickening to listen to the hype when all you want to do is draw us in, possibly to just grab our contact info, or perhaps entice us to pay up front for some pyramid scheme type of thing which has a very low success rate. I think so many of us are so numb to that, and are looking for a better way, and to get beyond that while still attracting loyal customers. Tim I think you have been advocating that and will continue to advocate putting in the hard work. Just don’t be afraid to fully reward your customers for their hard work, and lower your margins if necessary. Show us that it can work; show us case studies of the successful ones, showcase their philosophy, and what they are doing that is working.
There are many different List Building programs, ebooks, ect.
In my experience I have found that the best way to build a list is to start doing it. :-)
While offering free gifts can get you a ton of subscribers there are many that may
never be interested in buying a thing.
The thing that I would like addressed is the relationship with the list. All the hype of
‘the money is in the list’ is only true if you can have the list converted to buyers.
You could have a million people on your list and if you don’t know the technique to
convert them you may still be making pennies and losing everything.
So I am tired of hearing the fade sounds of ‘the money is in the list’. Lets make it
“The Money is in the Relationship with the list”.
I know I need an autoresponder if I want to build a list but how do I set up the one that comes with my hosting? Create cron jobs? How to setup double opt-in to protect against “spam” charges? That’s the stuff I’d like to learn.
