The first step to getting results

by Tim on December 11, 2009

When I polled the audience on what it is they wanted me to teach them, the answers were so varied that I soon realized it would be a "cover everything from start to finish". And with a touch of detail as well.

So the first step to getting results is building a list. There are many reasons why building a list will get you better results, and these are just a few:

  • You own the list, so even if the program you are promoting goes out of business, you aren't at a total loss.
  • You can build a relationship with the list, so when it comes time to promote you'll WAY better results.
  • You can promote more than one thing, you're not limited to that one program, one service, or one product.
  • You can add, edit, or remove any of the things you are promoting at any time.

When you promote a program directly, even if it lets you contact your downline, here's what really happens:

  • You don't own the list. So even if you have something great to offer, you can't use the list to promote it to.
  • Since you have no list, your contact with that person is now gone.
  • If you want to promote another product or service, you have to re-advertise to that person or find new people.

With a list one subscriber can easily bring in multiple sales. So if you are promoting 10 products, rather than having to send 100 hits a day to each of those 10 products, you only have to send 100 hits a day to build your list.

The problem is that building a list can be really daunting. So I'm going to try to do is show you step by step how to build a list. It really is easy once you understand it.

Now because there are so many scripts and services that can send out mail for you, there's no way I can show you how to do it on every one of them. That's why I'm going to ask you to sign up to Traffic Wave. There is a 30 day free trial, so you'll be able to go through this whole process with me, without it costing you.

I'm also choosing Traffic Wave for this because it's cheaper & easier to use than Aweber and has some crazy matrix thing to it. Essentially what happens is when I refer new people into their system, they actually get placed in my downline's downline. Which I think is a nice touch for those who are beginning their business.

(disclaimer: don't think that by joining you'll be making money or guaranteed someone will be put in your downline. people get a bit crazy about these things. you are joining to build a list. commissions and that sort should be seen as extras not as the reason to use a service)

So if you already have an auto responder service please join anyway, just for this series. Don't cancel your current one, but do try it out so you can follow along. It's free for those 30 days, and you don't need a credit card to try it. If you happen to like it over your current one then great, switch, but don't do it unless you want to.

And if you already have an account on Traffic Wave, don't create another account. Just follow along the series. Yeah it's nice that people show support and want to join under me, but someone else worked on getting you to join under them, so just enjoy the series ;-)

It's Time For Action:

  1. Go sign up for Traffic Wave here.
  2. Comment below after you have, and ask me 1 question about email marketing you have.

Tim,

My question is,

What sort of content do you suggest putting in the autoresponder as regularly scheduled messages? I understand it has to be useful to what they subscribed to hear. But without always pitching a new product how do you fill it with content that people would want to read?

Thanks

Mine is not actually a comment today but I am sure others want to know the answer to this too.

What about programs to list build? Do I own my list to these.

I am an upgraded member of “Build Your List With East”

And three days ago I bought Solomon Hewy’s new List builder program. (its brilliant by the way)

Whole idea of them is to build your list with them.

I would like to follow your program but I am sure two are quite enough because there is quite a lot of education with them so I do not want information overload.

Will this course be available again.

Remember your members are like children’s TV with a constant new supply of viewers it does not matter if you keep repeating.

I think at some point I’ll repost the articles into an auto responder series. That way I can point new subscribers to that list. I don’t want to repeat too often because I do want people to stay around. I’d rather post new tips and such than have to repeat what I’ve already said ;-)

The content will be on my blog forever though in the archives. I don’t delete the posts after I post them.

Nice article. I heard alot of talk about Traffic Wave on the Affliliate Funnel seminar.

I joined Traffic Wave some time ago and haven’t used it much. I should have started using it intead of GetResponse.

Currently trying the GVO’s but it doesn’t live upto what they say.

Maybe I should look at Traffic Wave again..:)

Nice touch but….I am so tired of joining lists and getting my e-mail account bombarded with useless ads. I am a surfer on a few TE and when i see one business I want to join I will..

And yes I have about 10 e-mail addresses and am tired of checking them all on a daily bases.

What is your answer for people like me that have a business and want to promote and do not want to be( on a list) overcome with emails for useless and time consuming e-mails. It does take time to sit and delete delete??

Thanks,

Hello there Tim.

Great advice as usual. I found a great ebook related to the niche topic broken up into a series of parts makes for a great follow up series in your autoresponder. You would have to own the PLR Rights to the ebook before using it. Put your promotional links into each email going out.

Kindest regards
TrudyVan
