Trying out VaultPress

by Tim on July 23, 2010

A few weeks ago I was given an invite to VaultPress, a new backup service for WordPress blogs. It creates snapshots of your blog whenever anything has changed, so you can restore to any version.

The initial backup took quite a bit, but then after that it's really just incrementally backing up your settings every time they are changed. The plugin hooks into what seems like every hook on WordPress so anytime something changes it saves it to the Vault.

The pricing is kinda high for the typical user, but for the power user or anyone who really understands the value of their data it's perfect. At least the pricing they are charging testers, I don't know what the final price structure will be. I can say it's a flat monthly pricing and it backs up all your plugins and uploads too.

Yesterday I found out the hard drive this blog is running on was failing, so it got replaced. It was very nice knowing that I had everything backed up with VaultPress, ready to download. Turns out I didn't need the backups, but the whole process of getting the drive replaced was stress free knowing I had them in place.

Jon Olson is Gonna Pay!

by Tim on July 18, 2010

I recently purchased a blender, and started blending every day. While I was in Traffic Exchange Live talking to Jon Olson (and of course all you regulars) he told me he didn't think I'd do it every day. He even went as far as to say that if I posted every day for 30 days that he'd give me $1000.

Well if you are interested in seeing if I meet that goal or not, please subscribe here. I don't want to flood you guys with blender recipe's if you aren't into them, so of course it's a totally separate site and list.

I'm hoping to learn a few things in this endeavor from a marketing side. And of course I'll report back to you guys with any successes or failures. But one thing is for sure, I've never been so motivated to post every day for 30 days before!

New Design, Thanks to Sweeva

May 19, 2010

I've updated my site's look to be more consistent with my new orange branding. The last theme I really just opened the files up and colored orange over the blue. It wasn't terrible, but it looked a bit faked (at least to me). This wasn't planned, but I was surfing Sweeva and this page came [...]

The Secret About Blogs

October 20, 2009

One of the biggest mistake blog owners make when advertising their blog, is sticking their blogs right into a traffic exchange. They get the instant surge of traffic, a few comments, and get excited. What Should I Do?

November 21, 2008

I'm looking for feedback from you my readers. You subscribed so really you get to dictate where I go with the blog, because if I go where you don't want me to go, essentially you'll unsubscribe. And that, is not the way to run a successful blog. SO, do you care if I post about [...]

August 12, 2008

I've been using a wordpress plugin called Close Old Posts for some time now, but the problem is it didn't make any database changes so spammers were still submitting comments on old posts. So I modified the plugin and created Really Close Old Posts which does the same thing but does do a database change. [...]

If you are subscribed to my blog via email, please update to the new provider. The box looks EXACTLY like the old one on the site. The difference is this will be using FeedBurner rather than Aweber. Why I Installed NoFollow Plugins

May 8, 2007

I decided to install two plugins, Link Love and NoFollow From Home. These plugins play with the NoFollow attribute on the links on my blog. Link Love will remove the NoFollow attribute to commenters with 10 or more comments. It uses the email address, so you can change your URL if you wish. I wanted [...]
