Traffic Exchanges Don’t Work

Hit Exchanges don’t work. That’s a fact, right? Well they won’t work if you won’t.

I’ve been reading tons of people’s comments on exchanges, and many say they don’t work. They are the same people who advertise the same affiliate links everyone else is advertising.

You know how Google ignores duplicate content? Well surfers work much the same way. Their sophisticated filters ignore your super long affiliate link because they’ve already seen it!

Are you listening? You need small unique pages for them to work! Ugh. That means you, yes, YOU will have to do some work! When companies advertise on TV or banners, they don’t just put a screen shot of their site do they? So why would that work on an exchange? Your site isn’t an advertisement, it’s your site!

    I agree 100%.

Even when I make a really bad splash page it actually works at traffic exchanges. People will click if they see something new and interesting. I don’t think that you should be promoting a generic splash page from your company even if it’s the best splash page you have ever seen.

    I absolutely agree.
Whenever I see the same page over and over again I ignore it and do something else instead.
I am trying to create my own splash pages as the ones offered by the affiliates are not making any headway at all in terms of generating sales or conversions

I’d be interested to know how many people have received new business as a result from a Hit Exchange. I mean the honest to goodness new business as a direct result.

Traffic xchanges still work! It’s a B to B affair so your offer should appeal to other webmasters. Your offer should also be unique or new and of course WIIFM still rules…

I understand the designing for your desired audience, but I can’t see a web design and development company such as mine targeting other webmasters. They typically would not be the type of customer who needs what we offer. I hope that makes sense, my understanding would say to target other xchange members for either splash page designs or business website design. Would something like that appeal to the desired target audience (in your opinion) or is that a shot in the dark?

    Also what is WIIFM ?

James - There are people who do very well building splash pages for use on exchanges. Many don’t have the knowledge of how to make them, so if you can make them for an affordable price I’d see you getting sales. Splash pages for the web designer are soo simple to make so you could pop out a bunch every hour. The hardest part (for me) is writing the actual catchy text =P

I am not sure you’d be able to get some quality ones in an hour, but certainly worth marketing to. Thanks everyone for your insight.
