Tips for Designing Splash Pages

In a recent issue of Hit Exchange News, in fact as of writing this I was notified 1 hour ago, Jon Olson wrote about a test he did that found only 30% of the pages he saw were splash pages. He also mentions a few tips on splash pages. Here are some other tips:
Keep it Simple

The more clutter, the more of a chance of not getting your point across. I’m not saying have no images, etc. I’m saying keep the overall look simple. Try to get one point out, not ten.

Use your Photo

Unless you are advertising your own business that has it’s own logo, you should have your photo on there. Remember to brand yourself!

Use the Classic Link (Click here to open in a new window)

I posted about it recently..  My testing has shown that using that link text (and actually making it open in a new window) gets more clicks than any other. Make sure you make it big, and centered. I use an H2 tag.

Test, Analyze, and Improve

It’s one thing to setup the test. It’s another to look at the results. But the KEY is to improve on what you’ve got. Use the results to make your next page better. Remember to record your findings so you can learn from your testing.

    I agree 100%. I have been doing some tests myself, and it´s always the splash page that wins.

    I have tried many listbuilding kind of pages, and they don´t do as well as the “click here” pages. It´s been rather difficult to build a large optin list from the use of traffic exchanges. But the way I have been a little successful is by giving away something that people want in exchange for their contact information.

    … but “click here” works a lot better for me.
